What exactly is a Jazz Listening Room?
A jazz listening room is a venue designed specifically for attentive, focused listening — not background music. At Ro Cham Beau, when the music begins, conversations pause and the room listens. You’ll hear things you simply cannot hear in a noisy bar or large concert hall — the subtle details, the improvisation, the natural sound of the instruments, the conversation between musicians. It’s an experience built entirely around the music. With only 70 seats, every seat gives you the opportunity to have an up close and personal experience with the performers.
I’ve never been to a jazz show before. Is this for me?
Absolutely. You don’t need to know jazz to love what happens in this room. We welcome dedicated jazz devotees and first-time listeners equally. If you’re curious, come. You’ll feel at home.
Planning Your Visit
What is the show format?
Doors open at 7:00 PM. Shows begin promptly at 8:00 PM and feature two sets of approximately 35 minutes each, with a 25-minute intermission. The bar stays open one hour after the final set. We encourage you to come early, settle in, and stay late.
Can I buy tickets at the door?
Yes, subject to availability. However, shows do sell out and we strongly recommend purchasing tickets in advance at rochambeau.club to guarantee your seat.
How does seating work?
All seating is general admission — a seat is guaranteed for every ticket holder. No assigned seats, no scrambling. Arrive early to choose your preferred spot in the room. Tickets may be purchased online in advance at rochambeau.club or at the door, subject to availability. Shows do sell out — we recommend booking ahead.
How do I find you? The entrance seems understated.
That’s intentional. Our signage is purposefully understated — we let the music do the talking. We are located at 3321 Michigan Avenue, Detroit, MI 48216. Look for the entrance on Michigan Ave. If you know, you know (and now you know).
Where should I park?
Free street parking is available on Michigan Avenue, in the alley behind Ro Cham Beau, and on 22nd and 23rd Streets. When parking on Michigan Avenue, please park away from the curb and out of the bike lane. No parking fees or garages required.
The Evening
What should I wear?
There is no formal dress code at Ro Cham Beau, but we invite you to dress for the occasion. Smart casual is the sweet spot — think a nice evening out rather than a casual night in. The music is world-class, the room has character, and you’re going somewhere worth remembering.
What drinks are available?
We serve canned cocktails, beer, mocktails and a variety of soft drinks. The bar opens when doors open at 7:00 PM and stays open one hour after the final set.
Can I talk during the show?
We ask that conversations pause while the music is playing. Not because we insist — but because once the music starts, you won’t want to miss a thing. Intermission is the perfect time to catch up, order another round, and share what you’re hearing with whomever you came.
Are all ages welcome?
Guests of all ages are welcome at Ro Cham Beau. Alcoholic beverage service is available only to guests age 21 and older with valid ID. Non-alcoholic beverages are available for younger guests.

Is accessible seating available?
Ro Cham Beau is pleased to welcome guests with accessibility needs. Wheelchair accessible seating is available — no need to call ahead. In addition, our restrooms are fully touch-free. Simply arrive, let us know how we can help, and we’ll take care of the rest.
What are the restrooms like?
Our restrooms are newly constructed, well-lit, and fully touch-free — doors, faucets, and flushers. We designed them with the same attention to detail as the rest of the venue and are, of course, kept sparkling clean by Mom. You’ll be pleasantly surprised.
